Instructional Videos

Lecture Videos

Video with direct instruction remains a common pedagogical need, and one that can be difficult to implement well. Talking heads are only so engaging. I worked closely with faculty to avoid the most common pitfalls in this format by selecting content with relevant visuals, carefully chunking it, and planning for how it would fit into the broader class. I also collaborated to plan and structure content around thoughtful, clear visuals that enhance student learning.

Narrative Scenes

Creating natural narrative scenes without a full crew or experienced actors is always a challenge. For this video, created with volunteer actors from a learning design team, the process was all about creating the conditions for success by communicating the full needs for pre-production planning. This included additional script revisions for dialog, establishing a careful rehearsal process, and thinking about reinforcing visuals to support the scene.

Interview & Documentary

Faculty Interview

Interviews provide a fantastic format to harness a subject’s expertise without asking them to prepare an entire presentation on their own. The art of conducting an interview is a complex one. From preparing the right questions, to putting your subject at ease, to teasing out the narrative in the final edit, I pride myself at improving the interview at every step of production.

Field Recording

Video is at its most moving when it is telling, not showing. But this brings a new set of challenges to navigate: logistics, equipment and location restrictions, and in some cases, concerns about subject privacy. I work with you to navigate those considerations and ensure your story shines through.

Visual & Interactive Design

Motion Graphics

Typography, graphics, and animation all play a critical role in a project’s look and feel. I have the skills to ensure that final deliverables meet your needs for tone and branding—and to create basic animations to illustrate important concepts and ideas. For more complex projects, I have the knowledge and experience to help plan visuals, communicate with animators and graphic designers, and establish efficient workflows to integrate motion graphics.

Interactive Design

Whether it’s video, readings, or even in-person lectures, direct instruction has its limits. When a passive medium isn’t enough, interactivity can play a major role in enhancing student learning. I’ve worked on designing interactive modules and tools using h5p, Genially, ChatGPT, Google AppSheet, HTML/JS, and more.

Traditional Production Highlights

The Heartbeat, The Hammer

Role: Director of Photography

This microbudget feature by Galen Peria—shot with a documentary-style crew—is a perfect example of what’s now possible with affordable, accessible technology and a flexible working style.

Separate Ways, Even in Death

Role: Editor

While working on this music video, I had to tackle the familiar—but nonetheless significant—challenge of crafting a cohesive look and feel and maintaining consistent timing with footage from a live event shoot incorporating many mixed sources.
